The Last Electrician You'll Ever Need

James Dent began his electrical career in the summer of 1971 in his hometown in Northern Virginia. There, he began working for his father as an electrician's helper in order to pay off a $2,000 car loan.

After graduating high school in 1972, he again went to his father for a job. By then, however, the car was paid for and dad wanted more experienced help. His father told him to go out on his own, learn the trade, and then come to him for a job. So, James began working as a helper with an electrician friend who was wiring new tract houses. In addition to this valuable on-the-job training, Jim and his friend spent many an evening after work going over wiring drawings of the houses they had worked on that day.

By 1974, James had begun working for his father again. Dent Electric of Northern Virginia specialized in the wiring of new custom homes and service-and-repair. James soon found that he had a real knack for troubleshooting electrical problems.

In 1976, James moved to Phoenix, Arizona and then on to Tucson where he spent the next eight years wiring everything from custom desert homes, to expansive new shopping malls, to convenience stores. "I got most of my commercial experience on a Safeway Shopping Center in Tucson," said James of a 1979 project. "I was on that job for almost two years."

After eight years, it was time to escape the desert heat. James was again drawn westward, and by 1983 he had moved to San Diego, California, where he took a job for almost three years with Race Electric of Ramona. At Race, however, he found himself working back in the hot Phoenix desert the very first year! After being continually sent to work out of town, from San Pedro to Santa Cruz, James decided to look for work that would keep him in San Diego.

In 1988, James earned his California State Contractor's License and Fairfax Electrical Contracting was born. James had become his own boss. He took on small jobs: duplexes, condos and service work. He changed his company's name to Point Loma Electric in 1993. PLE not only specialized in service-and-repair, but became actively involved in the utility pole removal work that was being done all over San Diego County. "We would pick up the SDG&E, SBC, and cable TV conduits at the property line, extend them underground to the house, and tie them into the existing overhead system." A Bobcat/backhoe, dump truck, and compactor became valuable additions to the company.

In 2002, James remarried and began to put in motion his plans to move his business to North San Diego County. But after moving north in 2004, and after more than 2 years away from the coast, he has since moved the company back to the Mission Valley area.

It was in August 2004, James' new company, Wireman Incorporated began operating in North County. All Point Loma Electric calls were routed directly to the new office located in Escondido, but James couldn't deal with constant driving and snarled traffic it took to keep his most loyal Point Loma and Ocean Beach customers serviced. So, on Jan.1st, 2007, they moved back.

"Now, we're only five minutes from the coast and centrally located in Mission Valley, and we can service all other areas of San Diego with less asphalt time. It seemed like every other street and every exit ramp onto I-15 in the Escondido area is under construction, and trying to get to San Diego every morning was taking it's toll. Getting back in the afternoon was even harder!"

Throughout his career, James Dent has earned the well-deserved reputation for providing his customers with outstanding electrical service and quality workmanship. In addition, he is respected for his integrity as a businessman. And he prides himself on being on time!

James and the staff at Point Loma Electric and Wireman Incorporated are excited about their new location. Give them a call today!
